Kia should be very proud that they ranked the highest in the JD Power Initial Quality study. The study has been conducted for the past 30 years and it examines problems experienced by vehicle owners during the first 90 days of ownership. Initial quality is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), a lower score would reflect higher quality. Kia was ranked the highest in initial quality with a score of 83 PP100. This was the first time in 27 years that a non-premium brand has topped the rankings. High quality is equivalent to high loyalty. Expected reliability is one of the most important considerations when purchasing a new vehicle. Ranking second place among nameplates is Porshe (84 PP100), followed by Hyundai (92 PP100), Toyota (93 PP100), and BMW (94 PP100). Jaguar, Mazda, and Mini Cooper are ranked worst overall with 127 PP100. Followed by Land Rover with 132 PP100. Volvo took a big hit with 152 PP100, Fiat reports 174 PP100, and Smart is the worst with a ranking of 216 PP100. Congratulations to Kia! Keep up the good work!
